Burlington Stone, Kirkby Quarry, revised working and restoration scheme delegated permission
Our planning team, supported by our landscape team, successfully secured delegated permission for a revised working and restoration scheme at Kirkby Quarry, Burlington Stone in Cumbria.
The Section 73 Minor Material Amendments (MMA) application was submitted in May 2023 and secures a deliverable working scheme to continue the quarrying and processing of the world-renowned slate until 2050.
The approved scheme incorporates surface water management infrastructure and a viewing platform at the Quarry. It also makes provision for new and enlarged settlement ponds to benefit the water environment and reduced planning condition requirements.
The Council’s prompt decision now enables Burlington Stone and Burlington Aggregates to move forward with their operations ensuring they are able to continue to supply the finest quality roofing and other construction materials that help maintain the unique vernacular of the Lake District.
